"Why do my colleagues look so bad on video conferences?"
Make sure this is never said about you by following three easy tips!
1. START WITH A SMILE
Before you click to transmit your video image, start smiling. Your colleagues/clients will get a great first impression of you. This is a way to establish positive energy. You will look happy to be there and like you have something interesting to say. If you don’t feel natural, don’t worry. What matters is how you are perceived.
2. PERFECT YOUR POSITION
Make sure your webcam is at eye level and you are one arm’s length away from it. Make a fist and stretch your arm out until it touches your webcam. When using your telephone, the camera will need to be a little closer – try half an arm’s length away. Also for a better image be sure to be at least one arm’s length from the wall behind you. Before you enter a video conference, you are given the chance to test your video. Do this and make sure you look your best.
3. LIGHTEN UP
The importance of lighting cannot be overstated. Be careful of light sources that cast shadows on your face. Your light source (desk lamp, window, or ring/halo light) coming from behind your webcam will improve your image.
